iGEM stands for International Genetically Engineered Machine competition. It is an international competition of science and technology in the field of synthetic biology. In recent years, synthetic biology has been an emerging direction of life science. Its goal is to make new species of great significance to life science and production available by reorganizing current functional units based on DNA coding sequence such as regulating coding sequence, RNA and protein. It has helped a lot in building a bridge between basic biological research and practice of production and life. Some of the research findings can be applied to making real products, so academic and industrial circles have paid close attention to this field.
