Task 1: Speaking
Work in pairs. Practice making a conversation between a tour guide and a tourist about buying some traditional Chinese products with reference to the expressions below.

Sample:
Tourist: Mr. Han, I'd like to buy some traditional Chinese crafts. Do you have any suggestions?
Tour guide: There is a wide range of choice, like jade carving, embroidery, pottery and textiles. All of them are typical Chinese crafts.
Tourist: How shall I bargain on these things?
Tour guide: Well, it depends on where you buy them. If in a designated shop, there is not much room for bargaining. But if in a local market, you can get a discount.
Tourist: Can you recommend any particular craft? I'd like to buy something to decorate my room.
Tour guide: How about the cloisonne? It is also called Jingtai Blue in China. It's been the best-seller among foreigners in these years.
Tourist: Oh, that's so nice!I'll take it. But the price seems a bit high. Could you help me to get a discount?
Tour guide: Let's see if we can have a bargain with the store manager...
Task 2: Listening
Liu Tao is introducing T'ai Chi to the tourists. Listen to the introduction and fill in the blanks with what you hear.
Task 2 script:
As we are going to see a T’ai Chi performance this afternoon, I’d like to introduce some basic ideas about this martial movement. T’ai Chi is an ancient Chinese martial art, which is also called shadow boxing. It reflects an old school of Chinese philosophy—Taoism. Though being one of the most effective and powerful martial arts, T’ai Chi seems to be a sport of an uncompetitive nature. The main practice of T’ai Chi is the form itself, which is a series of movements executed slowly and smoothly in a relaxed and focused manner. And the most important principles are controlling breathing and keeping the body in balance.
