3.2    Researching the topic

Once we have decided on the topicfor our academic paper, now it is time for us to do some research work, which is especially necessary if the topic we are going to write about is complex and requires considerable depth in discussion.

For example, we all know that the movie Titanic was quite a hit a few years ago both in America and in China. Many of the young people were the avid fans and had seen the movie several times. 



Here we must be informed about the latest developments in the field we are writing about, and we also must be able to communicate our findings accurately and concisely. Actually, doing research is a practical skill like swimming. Once learned, it is easy to perform. And knowing how to do research in our field offers lifelong benefits. There are many ways to do research on a chosen topic. Chief among them are the following three: the library research, the field research and the Internet research.
