语法知识——Numerals (数词)


表示多少第几的词叫数词。数词分成两大类:基数词和序数词。表示多少的词叫基数词,如:one, hundred等;表示第几的词叫序数词,如:first, hundredth


一、基数词

最基本的基数词如下,其他的数词都可以由这些词组成。

ten (10)

二、序数词

序数词一般由基数词加-th构成,如:fourth, sixth, eleventh等。以-y结尾的基数词构成序数词时,先把-y变为-i,再加-eth,如:twentieth, fortieth, fiftieth等。还有一些序数词的构成变化不规则,如:

第一 first

第三 third

第五 fifth

第八 eighth

第二 second

第九 ninth

第十二 twelfth

 

在日常生活中,序数词常被简化,一般规律是:阿拉伯数字后加相应序数词的末尾两个字母。如:1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 21st, 30th, 105th

 

数词用法的规则如下:

1. 编号的事物可用序数词或基数词加名词表示。例如:

the Fourth Lesson — Lesson Four

2. 有些编号的事物常用基数词表示。例如:

Room 8013, Bus No. 3, Page 256, the No. 101 Middle School

3. 表示年、月、日时,用基数词。

April 5th,1996

May 1st 1977

4. 表示几点钟时用基数词。例如:

five (o’clock), five past three, twenty to nine
