Want to get a good job aftercollege? Use these tips to jump-start your career while you are in school.

Visityour college career center.

Don't wait until your final days in college to visit your school'scareer center. Most colleges offer assistance in choosing majors, findinginternships, exploring graduate school, and preparing for a job search.

Assessyourself.

Employers want to know why you are a good fit for their company.Take time now to learn how your skills, values, interests, and personality influenceyour career choices. Use assessment tools from your college career services orfree online assessment tools. What you learn about yourself will help prepareyou for interviews and make resume writing easier.

Explorecareers related to your major.

Don't wait until you are graduating to think about the workplace. Tohelp plan your career path, conduct several informational interviews withpeople who work with. Ask them if your major program and extra-curricularexperiences have prepared you for the requirements employers expect.

Participatein career activities.

Potential employers expect job candidates to have related skills andexperience, not just coursework, and other school achievements. To set yourselfapart from other recent graduates, participate in internships, and otherwork-based learning experiences. You can also participate in career-relatedvolunteer opportunities, or part-time or summer employment related to yourchosen career.
