2. Types of conversion

1)  being converted into verb in Chinese

⑴ Noun---Verb

Ex 1. Rockets have found application for the exploration of the Universe.

【V】火箭已用来探索宇宙。

Ex 2. This war is a drain on French resources.

   【V】这场战争不断消耗法国的资源。

⑵ Preposition---Verb

Ex 1. Party officials worked long hours on meager food,  in cold caves, by dim lamps. 

   【V】党的干部每天长时间工作,吃的是粗茶淡饭,住的是冰冷的窑洞,点的是昏暗的油灯。

⑶ Adjective---Verb

Ex 1. He said the meeting was informative.

【V】他说,这个会议使人知道了许多事情。


⑷ Adverb---Verb

Ex 1. Let me through.

   【V】让我过去。

Ex 2. Our machine is down.

   【V】我的的机器坏了。

2) being converted into noun in Chinese

⑴ Verb---Noun

Ex 1. She behaves as if she were a child.

    【V】她的举止跟孩子一样。

⑵ Adjective---Noun

Ex 1. Hospital are getting more efficient these days.

   【V】近日来,医院的效率越来越高。

Ex 2. The new treaty would be good for ten years.

   【V】这个新条约的有效期为十年。

⑶ Adverb---Noun

Ex 1. He is strong physically, but weak mentally.

   【V】他体力好,智力差。

3)  being converted into adjective in Chinese

⑴ Noun---Adjective

Ex 1. The blockage is a success.

   【V】封锁很成功。

⑵ Adverb---Adjective

Ex 1. This film impressed me deeply.

   【V】这部影片给我留下深刻的印象。

4) being converted into adverb in Chinese

⑴ Noun---Adverb

Ex 1. He had the honor to attend the congress.

    【V】他光荣地出席了代表大会。

⑵ Adjective---Adverb

Ex 1. He gave a quick glance at the girl in blue.

    【V】他迅速地看了穿蓝衣服的女孩一眼。
