2. Basic Functions of Translation （翻译的基本作用）

1) A means of cross-linguistic  communication.

2) An instrument to transmit culture and promote social development.

      e.g. introduction of Buddhism from India to China, sci-tech exchanges among different countries.

3) A way of enriching language expressions.

      e.g. 武装到牙齿，掉鳄鱼眼泪，paper tiger, kungfu.. 

4) A technique to improve language acquisition.
