1.         Lead-in  activity  (20 minutes)

A discussion over the following topics:

Q: Do you want to stay young?

   What are the advantages  of being 20 and 30 ?

   What do you want to  achieve before 30?

2.         Skim the text  for main idea  ( 10 minutes)

3.         Listening practice 1   ( 60  minutes)

Task 1: listen to the report about senior citizens and figure out  some details (30 minutes)

Task 2:  Dictation exercises (30 minutes)

Total: 90 minutes

3. Let the Ss understand importance of topic sentences in writing.

1. Translation techniques.

2. Writing : paragraph development- the topic sentence

1.         Regular oral  practice: News broadcast  (10 minutes)

2.         Check the  answers to exercises and discuss on relevant language points.    ( 40 minutes)

3.         Writing practice  ( 38 minutes)

    Ask the students to fall  into groups to discuss about how to generate a topic sentence for each  paragraph in the exercises.

5.   Assign a writing task and after-class preview of Text II 

(2 minutes)

  Ask the Ss to role play  the sample dialogue and comment on their performance and pronunciation.

4.         Assign  after-class exercises  (2 minutes)
