Lecture: The instructor will introduce students to the essential qualities of academic English for science and engineering to be discussed during the class. The students are required to anatomize a well-written paper in your research field each week;

Discussion: The instructor will lead the class in a discussion of the essential qualities of academic English for science and engineering. We will focus on the structure of the paper and the academic language as well;

Peer Workshop: We will hold peer workshops for all of the assignments the day they are turned in. At these sessions you will share your research assignments with other students and help one another with project plans;

By the end of this term, students should 

have an increased awareness of the key features of academic English for science and engineering, and they should be able to:

• listen to academic lectures

• take effective notes

• read academic texts quickly and effectively

• express ideas clearly and accurately in academic writing

• give oral presentations

• examine concordances to gain information on language patterns
