本课程是为英语专业二年级学生第一学期开设的学类核心课，对中西思想、神话、宗教、文学、艺术、语言、习俗和社会生活等方面进行对比介绍，旨在帮助学生理解中外文化的基本特点和异同，尊重世界不同文化的差异性和多样性，开拓学生的视野、培养跨文化同理心。具体而言，语言层面旨在扩大学生在各个方面的词汇量，并进行相关主题的阅读；文化知识层面旨在增长学生中西思想、文化、历史等各方面的知识，增强学生对西方文化和中国文化的理解，提高综合素质；价值层面旨在开拓学生的视野，增强民族自豪感和文化自信，培养学生的全球意识。

This is an elective course for the sophomore of English majors, aiming at helping them to learn the features and differences of Chinese and Western cultures, to respect the diversity of cultures, broadening their horizons and cultivating their cross-cultural empathy. It will mainly introduce Chinese and Western ways of thinking, politics, education, literatures, arts, languages, customs and habits as well as social lives. In terms of language skills, the students will learn vocabulary in various fields and read relevant articles; in terms of knowledge, the course would input build their knowledge in Chinese and Western thoughts, cultures, histories and social lives, etc., and deepening their understanding of Chinese and Western cultures, therefore enhancing their comprehensive qualities; in terms of values, the course aims to broaden the students’ horizons, strengthen their national pride and cultural confidence, and cultivate their global consciousness.
