    Wushu is a traditional national sport based on Chinese traditional culture, which pays attention to both internal and external training and lays equal stress on skills and morality. As a characteristic event of Chinese traditional culture, it is an essential part of spreading Chinese culture. It is a business card of Chinese culture, which brings not only movement elements in routine, but also Wushu spirit in Chinese culture and traditional virtues.Wushu originates in China and belongs to the world.
    In recent years, with the improvement of China's comprehensive national strength, more and more international students come to China to study or exchange. Most of them come to China to learn Chinese and professional skills they are interested in. And also, they have a strong interest in Chinese traditional culture, as well as Chinese Wushu. Therefore, it can not only enrich their spare time, but also enable them to better understand Chinese traditional culture to set up Wushu courses among international students.
    Nanjing Tech University, as one of the Target Universities of Overseas Studying in Jiangsu Province, has nearly 400 international students from 36 countries, such as UK, Italy, Russia, Kazakhstan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, South Korea, etc. Since 2016, Wushu course taught in English has been offered for undergraduate international students, which is a non-degree course, and a compulsory credit course for undergraduate international students in our university. The course time is divided into autumn semester (September to next January) and spring semester (March to June), there are two rounds for a academic year, and the average teaching scale is 60 students per class with 100% proportion of international students.
    Course leaders mobilized all teachers to compile the syllabus on Wushu, which fully absorbed the latest achievements of the development of modern Wushu and the experience of Wushu curriculum reform in sister colleges. Now, there formed a relatively complete system of Wushu syllabus for international students, and the methods of teaching have also developed to modern multimedia teaching and make full use of online resources for teaching, from simple means of teaching, as greatly improved the quality of teaching.

Syllabus

I Basic situation of the course

(1)Course overview

Wushu is a traditional national sport based on Chinese traditional culture, which pays attention to both internal and external training and lays equal stress on skills and morality. As a characteristic event of Chinese traditional culture, it is an essential part of spreading Chinese culture. It is a business card of Chinese culture, which brings not only movement elements in routine, but also Wushu spirit in Chinese culture and traditional virtues.

Wushu originates in China and belongs to the world.

In recent years, with the improvement of China's comprehensive national strength, more and more international students come to China to study or exchange. Most of them come to China to learn Chinese and professional skills they are interested in. And also, they have a strong interest in Chinese traditional culture, as well as Chinese Wushu. Therefore, it can not only enrich their spare time, but also enable them to better understand Chinese traditional culture to set up Wushu courses among international students.

II Teaching content


This course is a traditional Chinese physical education course, which consists of theory and practice. On the premise of fully considering the background of international students and the requirement of talents' needs, the teaching contents are arranged in a multi-faceted, three-dimensional way, which fully reflects the modern educational thoughts and conforms to the rules of science, advancement and education and teaching. Through the study of the course, the aim is to let the international students feel and understand the Chinese traditional culture more deeply, and make them have a strong interest in Chinese traditional culture.

Teaching key and difficult points:

(1)Key points:

    Through the teaching of cultural communication and action technology, students should develop a correct understanding and master the Wushu cultural connotation, Wushu fitness methods, and learn certain appreciating and judging skills.

(2)Difficult points:

To translate Chinese culture-specific vocabulary and connotation into English teaching.

Note: Miss refers to a pause in the routine exercise process, but the following actions can be completed within 10 seconds. If the students' miss time exceeds 10 seconds, they should be considered as unable to complete the routine (allowing for the second examination within the prescribed examination time). In the routine exercise process, 5 points are deducted for each pause exceeding 10 seconds.

V  Teaching Team

1)knowledge structure and age structure of teaching team

This course includes three associate professors, one lecturer and one assistant, with the master's degree of five person. The knowledge structure of the teaching staff covers all related fields of competitive Wushu, traditional Wushu and physical education, and the teaching researchers and leaders of the Ministry of Physical Education guide and support the teaching reform.

The teachers are a group people with strong vitality, high teaching level, academic level and special attention to teaching reform, among whom, there are 2 teachers under 40 years old and 3 teachers of 40 and 50 years old.

2)Structure of Graduation School

The head of the course is graduated from Beijing Sport University with the major of Traditional Ethnic Sports, and other teachers are graduated from College of Wushu of Shanghai University of Sport, Department of Wushu of Beijing Sport University, Department of Economics and Management of Nanjing Tech University, Department of Physical Education of Yangzhou Normal University. The academic structure of such a multi-school and multi-type University enables the teaching team to master the specialty of muti-disciplinary and muti-dimensional education with diverse teaching characteristics and reasonable structure of learning edge.

3)Distribution of Teachers 

In recent years, there is an increasing trend that the annual enrollment of undergraduate students in overseas education colleges. It is expected that the teacher-student ratio will be kept within 1:35 for a long time, which is in line with the small-class teaching of physical education course. This course is staffed with course research and development personnel, who are responsible for the research of course requirements, the construction of course content system, teaching design, the research of theoretical framework construction of cultural resources course, course evaluation, teaching resources construction and the organization and implementation of course activities; and the teaching implementation and management personnel, who are responsible for the implementation of the whole process of course teaching, and the preparation of teaching plans and courseware, and explore various teaching methods, teaching and cultivating, as well as teaching monitoring.


Teaching Methods

在本课程教学过程中,我们采用网络、多媒体和录像视频等多种现代教学手段,提高留学生对武术的感性认识,增强留学生的学习兴趣,改善学习效果。

一、多种教学方法灵活使用的形式与目的

    在教学过程中采用启发式、引导式、探究式、互动式、讨论式等教学方法,提高学生学习兴趣,培养学生发现问题、分析问题、解决问题的能力。并根据教学内容,适时开展教学活动。

   (一)武术比赛——丰富校园武术文化氛围,提高学生对武术的学习兴趣;检验教学效果。

   (二)校内外各级各类武术表演——开阔学生视野,提高学生社会适应能力,培养学生自我表现能力。

   (三)武术赛事录像观摩——提高学生实践能力和理论水平、培养学生分析及综合应用能力。

   (四)“技术课” 中学生领做——培养学生组织、管理和表达能力。

二、相应的上课学生规模;

    针对武术课程教学内容实践性强,开设小班上课,每班人数约为30-50人,保证教学质量。

三、信息技术手段在教学中的应用及效果

   (1)课堂理论教学,充分利用多媒体课件、录像、课件等现代教育技术手段,使抽象知识形象化,既丰富了教学内容,又调动了学生学习的积极性。

   (2)技术教学中采用录像拍摄,便于学生掌握正确的技术要领,提高教学效果。

   (3)理论考试采用网上考试的模式。

   (4)建设教学网站,利用网络,提高学生对武术文化和技术自主学习能力。

Teaching Condition

1. Use and construction of teaching materials

    In the use of teaching materials, we developed and organized all martial arts teachers according to the overall plan for the course construction to compile the "Martial Arts Interactive Course" textbook. According to the needs of textbook construction, it is expected that the English textbook of "Martial Arts Interactive Course" will be published in July 2020.

2. Information usage

    The school library and the Ministry of Physical Education have purchased some of the latest martial arts English works, and it is free for all international students. In addition, during the course of martial arts teaching, the instructor will provide students with a list of reference materials related to the learning content, and encourage students to use the Internet to find relevant content, and constantly enrich the students' vision.

3. Practical teaching environment

    Martial arts courses are mainly based on practical teaching. In order to ensure the smooth progress of teaching, the Ministry of Physical Education has purchased a large number of high-quality martial arts equipment. In the use of the venue, the Ministry of Physical Education provided the gymnasium as the venue for the class to ensure the smooth development of the course teaching.

4. Network teaching environment

    "Network teaching" is one of the teaching methods of Wushu teaching courses. According to the needs of course construction, a course learning website shall be established. Students can conduct self-directed learning through teaching videos and courseware, and at the same time promote the smooth progress of open teaching and achieve good results. It also provides conditions for students to watch various martial arts competitions, broadens the students' horizons, and plays an important role in teaching.

Teaching Evaluation

(1) Evaluation of external experts

Every year, experts from outside the school are invited to listen to the instruction. Experts from outside the school give a high evaluation of the teaching. They believe that the content design of the course is reasonable, and the curriculum positioning, teaching objectives and design of the teaching content are standardized and accurate. The teachers of the course are strong and reasonably structured; various practical teaching methods are distinctive and the teaching reform measures are appropriate; the practical effects of the course reform are obvious, and the quality of the students trained is high.

(2) Evaluation of the teaching supervision team in the school

Every semester, the school's teaching supervision group and the ministry's supervision group experts will listen to the lectures and put forward some constructive opinions on the teaching content and teaching methods, especially for young teachers. It will greatly help young teachers and improve the teaching level of young teachers. Martial arts course teachers are competent and responsible for the teaching and construction of the course, and have achieved significant results in the teaching and construction of the course. In the martial arts course, there is a teaching team that is seriously responsible for the teaching work and voluntarily and proactively contributes to the hard work of the course. They are united and cooperative, concerned about curriculum development, and can incorporate the latest development of the curriculum into students' actual teaching. Secondly, a set of multimedia courseware supporting the course has been developed to make the original abstract and boring content more intuitive and vivid, and the realization of multimedia teaching and course guidance network has been widely welcomed by students.

(3) Student evaluation of teaching

The Wushu courses are among the best in the school 's annual assessment of the teacher 's teaching quality. Wushu course teachers are responsible for the Wushu teaching of nearly 200 international students in the first and second grades of the university, teaching and educating people, and being a teacher; the serious and responsible teaching attitude has been highly praised by the students. Highlighting key points and difficulties, being organized and logical, reflecting the new progress of the Wushu curriculum, able to reasonably use various multimedia methods and network-assisted teaching, focusing on stimulating students ’enthusiasm for learning, focusing on interaction with students, listening to opinions, improving teaching, Teaching students according to their aptitude, focusing on the development of students' personality and the cultivation of innovative ability.
