1. avoid第一层意思=prevent something bad from happening（避免）

  1.1 人们离开阳光照晒，就可以avoid skin cancer（避免皮肤癌）

  1.2 开车时走神，he narrowly avoided an accident（他险些出事故）

  1.3 avoid doing（避免做某事），比如，临睡觉之前应该avoid drinking coffee（避免喝咖啡）；

   低调的他一直尽量avoid being noticed（避免引人注目）

2.avoid第二层意思=evade（躲避）

  2.1小女孩很害羞，说话时总是在avoiding my eyes（躲避我的目光）

  2.2 对麸质过敏的人应该avoid certain foods such as grain（戒吃谷物之类食物）

  2.3 早早动身是为了能avoid the rush hour（避开交通高峰时刻）

3英语表示“避免”、“阻止”的动词，大都不能带that名词从句作为其直接宾语。that名词从句，整个内容被“否定”、“制止”，在英文是不习惯的，不能说avoid that the cup falls down，可以改成 avoid the cup falling down
