3.s，that和though引导的让步状语从句

(1)基本用法。

在非常正式的语体中，为了强调让步意义，可以采用“名词、形容词、分词、副词+as+主语+动词”或“动词原形+as/+主语+助动词”结构。(参见as引导的原因状语从句、that引导的原因状语从句)

Coward as he was，however，Flash man couldn't swallow such an insult as this．

然而，弗拉斯曼虽然是个胆小鬼，却不能忍受这样一种侮辱。

提示：

如上例，在这种句型中如果表语是单数可数名词，须用零冠词。

Quiet student as he may be，he talks a lot about his favorite singers after class．(05年重庆高考题)

尽管他是个不爱说话的学生，然而课后他说起喜爱的歌星时却口若悬河。

但是在前面加上such或like时，必须带上a/an。(参见as引导的原因状语从句)

Such/like a quiet student as he may be，he talks a lot about his favorite singers after class．

Rich as he is，(yet)I don't envy him．

=I don't envy him，(even)though he is rich．

尽管他很有钱，但是我并不羡慕他。

Impressive as the record is，it fades next to the story of Armstrong's struggle againstdisease．(人教大纲版高三第4页)

尽管这项纪录给人的印象很深刻，但不如阿姆斯特朗同疾病作斗争的故事那么令人瞩目。

His voice，drowned as it was by the noise，seemed loud．

他的声音被吵闹声淹没了，但是好像还是很大。

Much as I should like to see you，I am afraid it is inconvenient for you．

尽管我很想去看你，但是我怕你不方便。

Quickly as it spread and threatening as it appeared to be，the fire was controlled at last．

尽管火势蔓延得很快，来势凶猛，但它还是被控制住了。

提示：

as还可以跟附带成分。

Waste so much time as he did，he got a lot of experience．

虽然他花费了很多时间，却也学到了不少经验。

Fail in the election as he did，he became famous for his fiery speech against slavery．

尽管落选了，但是他却以反对奴隶制的激烈演说而出了名。

Search the woods as they might，they could find nothing

尽管他们在林子里找遍了，但是他们什么也没有找到。

Hate each other as they might，the two generals were forced to admire each other．

尽管他们互相憎恨，但是这两位将军也不得不互相钦佩。

(2)though和that也可以用于倒装结构中。

在上述所有的例句中，as都可以用though替代，不同的是as在表示让步时，倒装是强制性的，though既可以正装，也可以倒装。如果放在句首的是名词，还可以用that替代as和though。

Fool that/as/though I was，I did not believe every word he said．

我虽然很傻，但我并不相信他说的每一句话。

Teacher as/that/though Michael is，he is not capable of teaching all subjects．

虽说迈克尔是个老师，但他也不能教所有的学科。

Clever though/as you may be，you cannot do it．

就算你聪明，这件事你也做不了。

(3)“as/so+形容词/副词+as+主语+谓语”结构。

“as/so+形容词/副词+as+主语+谓语”结构所表达的意义和“形容词/副词+as+主语+谓语”结构一样，在此so或者as放在句首只是起强调作用。

As horrible as it was，SARS was not strong enough to break the determination of the Chinese people．(人教大纲版高三第214页)

虽然SARS病毒很可怕，但却不足以摧毁中国人战胜它的决心。

I am quite ashamed of you，to hesitate to do your cousins a favor，so kind as they are to you．

我真替你感到羞愧，虽然你的表兄弟们对你那么好，你却不愿意帮他们一把。
