6.that引导的原因状语从句

由that引导的原因状语从句，常用于“not that．．but that”句型，that引导的原因状语从句有时用“名词/形容词+that+主语+动词”倒装结构表示，这时that可与as互换。(参见as引导原因状语从句引起的倒装)

He always traveled third-class，not that he was so miserly，but that he wanted to go side by side with ordinary people．

他总是乘三等舱旅游，倒不是因为爱钱如命，而是想要接近普通老百姓。

提示：

注意下面的句子that也表示原因，但是引导的是表语从句:

If I find fault with you，it is that I want you to do better in future．

如果说这是批评你，那是因为我要你以后做得更好。

Chemist that he is，Charles is suspicious of doctors'prescriptions．

因为查尔斯是药剂师，他对医生们的处方起了疑心。

Clumsy idiot that he was，Michael completely ruined the dinner．

Clever that the boy was，he found little difficulty in solving the problem．

that从句倒装时，有时也可以表示“虽然”，请对比:

Fool that he was，he managed to get rid of the gang．

=Though he was a fool，he managed to get rid of the gang．
