4.“for the reason that等介词短语+that”引导的原因状语从句

这类原因状语从句主要有for the reason that，on the ground(s)that，by reason that和for fear(that)等。

(1)用for the reason that表示。

He cannot be charged with murder for the reason that he was not there when the crime was committed．

不能指控他杀人，因为案发时他不在那儿。

We decided against installing new heating apparatus，for the reason that it would be too costly．

我们决定不安装新的暖气设备，因为代价太高。

(2)用on the ground(s)that表示，在此结构中that不宜省略。

He refused to disclose what had been told him，on the ground that it would be a breach of confidence．

他拒绝透露别人告诉他的事情，因为这是一种背信行为。

She looks down upon us on the grounds that we are poor．

因为我们穷，她看不起我们。

(3)用by reason that表示。

Wine is scarce here by reason that it is forbidden．

这儿禁酒，因而缺酒。

The boy cannot play games by reason that he is lame．

由于跛足，那孩子不能参加游戏。

(4)用for fear(that)表示。

He is working hard for fear(that)he should fail．

他生怕失败，因而努力工作。

She didn't go far for fear that she would get lost．

她怕迷路，没有走远。
