—Why didn't you come?

—Because I was ill.

It was because he was ill that he didn't go with us.

Because he was ill,so he missed the class.

Some people can never go above 4,000 metres because their body is unable to adjust to these extreme conditions.(人教大纲版高三第16页)

He distrusted me because I was new.

He didn't buy it,because it was expensive.

Because it was wet,I didn't go out for a walk.

He is only sick in mind because he is sick in body.

=He is sick in mind only because he is sick in body.

I didn't leave home because I was afraid of my father.

The studio didn't really like the script of Nosebleed because it was not perfect yet.(人教大纲版高一上第112页)

另外,在because之前可以加上only,simply,just,partly等强调语。

People read advertisements partly for information and partly because they are interesting.(人教大纲版高三第44页)

Fish can live in these temperatures only because their blood contains a particular chemical.(95

(3)because与for用法比较。

The old lady doesn't go out in the winter, for she feels the cold a great deal.

The morning had been fine, for there was no wind.(人教大纲版第79页)

It's going to rain, because the dark clouds are gathering and hanging lower and lower.

It's going to rain, for my knee joints are aching.

The day breaks, for the birds are singing.

He must be in the room, for the light is on.

The days were short, for it was December.

She was so depressed because she failed the exam.

=Because she failed the exam, she was so depressed.

She must be depressed, for she failed the exam.

×For she failed the exam, she must be depressed.

第二,because状语从句可以用于“It is(was)..that..”

It was because I worked so hard that I was promoted last month.

×It was for I worked so hard that I was promoted last month.

第三,because可以引导表语从句,还可用副词来修饰,如merely because,only because,simply because等;而for从句不可作表语,也不能用副词来修饰。

It is chiefly because he is too impatient.

×It is chiefly for he is too impatient.

He was fired simply because he was too careless.

×He was fired simply for he was too careless.

I gave him the permission,because I had to,not because I wished to.

He was late with his homework, not because he couldn't do it,but because he was ill.

I like the story because it was the first time that I had written with real passion and because it made me realize that everyone's life is different.(人教大纲版高二上第12页)

When I saw her in the river,I was frightened. For at that point the current was dangerous.
