2.表示过去未曾实现的希望、打算与意图

过去完成时可表示过去未曾实现的想法和打算，通常连用的动词是want，think，hope，plan，mean，expect，intend，suppose等。

I had meant to come，but something happened．

我本想来，但出了点事情就没有来。

I had intended to speak，but time did not permit．

我本想发言，但时间不允许。

We had hoped that you would come to see us，but you didn't．

我们本想你来看我们的，但你没有来。

这一用法还见诸于条件句和I wish．．if only．．I'd rather．．后面的that从句中。

How I wish I had gone to the movie last night!我真希望昨天晚上去看了那场电影。

If only you had given me a new one．

要是你给了我一个新的该多好啊。

I'd rather you had told me the fact．

我宁愿你给我说出事实。
