4.表示过去的过去

在描写一件发生在过去之前的事情时，如果不强调因果关系和先后关系，可以用过去时表示“过去的过去”，而非一定要使用过去完成时。

He felt sorry for what he said．

他对他说的话感到懊悔。

As soon as he came back，he set out to tidy up the room for the party．

他一回到家，就开始为聚会整理房间。

Did you find the pen you lost?

你找到你丢了的那支笔没有?

When Tom Hanks shot the film Cast Away，he had to lose a lot of weight．(人教大纲版高一下第87页)
