4.副词用法

(1)用在序数词之前。

Antonio Gaudi,a Spanish architect,was the first to understand that.(人教大纲版高二上第20页)

西班牙建筑师安东尼奥·高迪最先搞懂了这一点。

That was the third Korean TV series that I had seen.

那是我看的第三部韩剧。

提示:

当序数词不是强调顺序,而表示“又一”或其他意义时,在序数词前面使用不定冠词a。

In China students learn English at school as a foreign language,except for those in Hong Kong,where many people speak English as a first or a second language.(人教大纲版高一上第10页)

除了香港地区许多人把英语当作第一或第二语言外,中国学生都把英语作为外语来学习。

(2)用在形容词或副词的最高级之前。

Could you tell me the shortest way to the post office?

你能告诉我去邮局最近的路吗?

This is the most expensive meal that I have ever had.

这是我吃过的最贵的一顿饭。

Mr.Wang came(the)earliest this morning.

王先生今天上午来得最早。

Mary walks(the)fastest of us all.

玛丽在我们中间是走得最快的。

提示:

当最高级形式表示“极”、“很”的意思时,前面不用定冠词。

It is a most interesting film.

这是一部非常有趣的电影。

He is best at English.

他的英语很好。

(3)用在形容词比较级之前。

当比较级中有比较的范围,而不是比较的对象时,比较级前用定冠词the,形容词后面的名词有时可以省去。

He is the taller of the two brothers.

他是兄弟俩中个子较高的那个。

The larger of the two islands is Britain.

两个岛屿中较大的是不列颠群岛。

Tom is the more careful of the two students.

汤姆是这两个学生中更细心的那个。

Which is the larger country,Canada or Australia?

哪个国家大,是加拿大还是澳大利亚呢?

(4)用在“the(more)..the(more)”这一结构中,相当汉语中的“越……越……”,表示两个过程按比例同时递增。这种句型的前一个“the more”结构是从属结构(表示条件);后一个“the more”结构为主句,通常是从句在前、主句在后。

The more we know,the more we can imagine,and the more we imagine,the more we can learn.(人教大纲版高一上第137页)

我们懂得的越多,想象就越丰富;想象越丰富,学到的就越多。

The more books you read,the more knowledge you'll gain.

你看的书越多,获得的知识就越多。

The more careful you are,the fewer mistakes you'll make.

你越是仔细,犯的错误就越少。

这种结构往往有省略。

The sooner this is done,the better.

做得越早就越好。

The fewer who know I have arrived,the better.(BNC)

知道我到了的人越少越好。

提示:

有时状语从句可以放在后面,这时主句的比较级前的冠词可以略去。

I like it the less,the longer I think of the plan.

我越想这个计划,就越不喜欢它。

She sang the better,the more she practiced.

她越是练习,唱得就越好。

Ash and bits of rock that were burnt black were falling onto the ship now,darker and more,the closer they went.(人教大纲版高二上第76页)

灰尘和烧黑的石块落进了小船。他们越是靠近,石块就越来越黑、越来越多。
