2.独指用法

用在表示世界上独一无二的东西(如太阳、月亮、世界、地球、天空、宇宙)或指自然界现象或表示方位、左右等的名词前。(参见概说部分)

The moon hung high in the sky．

月亮高高地悬在空中。

The night is cold．

夜晚很冷。

The sun rises in the east and sets in the west．

太阳东边升，西边落。

提示：

earth，air作物质名词时，不需要冠词。

Can man live without air?

没有空气我们能活吗?

Cover the roots with earth．

用土培好树根。

The wind changes to the north．

风向转北。

Turn to the left and you will find the post office．

左拐，你就会找到邮局。

提示：

但如果这些表示自然现象的名词前有形容词加以描绘时，可以用不定冠词。

Late at night a cold wind swept the river．

深夜的时候，一阵寒风掠过河边。

A new moon is hanging high in the sky．

一轮新月高悬在空中。

Look!A big red sun is rising．

看!一轮红日正冉冉升起。

What a stormy-looking sky!
