This letter is w ritten by the National Chem icals Imp.＆Exp.Corp. in answer to the order made by a foreign firm.Ow ing to the shortage of supply，the w riter suggests a substitute for the type required，apart from supplying half the quantity from stock. In w riting such letters，it is advisable to bring up a substitution for consideration rather than to refuse flatly.

5. substitution n.代替

一般而言substitution指代替的行为

名词substitute指代替品

We cannot agree to the proposed substitution because the substitute suggested does not suit the purpose.

我们不能同意你们建议的代替办法，因为提出的代替品不合用。in substitution for代替

We enclose an amended contract in substitution for the previous one.

III. Chinese version of the letter:

今收到你方十月二十六日关于含量为99.5%氧化锌最少100公吨的订单。
