Firm offers are usually made as market fluctuations demand the most effective and rapid means of communication. Immediately after sending a firm offer，the exporterwould send a letter not only for confirmation but also for explanation. The letter given in this lesson serves as an example，w ith the purpose of recommending acceptance. The letter should carry to the buyer some convincing force of a good salesman's talk.

1. firm adj.确定的有效的

This offer is firm for a week.

此报盘一周内有效。

此句的表语形容词firm不可改用其他形容词。

做“确定，有效”解的firm的副词有两种形式，即firm和firm ly.在商业信函中它修饰动词offer，counter-offer，bid等时，用firm

5. bid n./v.递价，出价= buyer's offer

卖方在货少或价格看涨时，可要求买方发价，以便集中对比，然后决定与谁成交。当然，买方也可以主动递价。

名词bid常与动词make，send，give连用，基本结构是:make sb. a bid(at a price)(for sth.)。

动词bid的常用结构为:bid(a price) for(sth.)

6. There is a possibility of...

1) possibility of+动名词

3) possibility+ that从句

7. demand n./ v.需求(表示对某物的需求，接介词”for”)

demand+从句(虚拟语气)

8. Themarket is strengthening.行市正在上涨

III. Chinese version of the letter:

兹确认你方九月二日传真，要求我方按成本运费付至哥本哈根价报盘花生米及核桃仁。此复，现报盘手捡、去壳、不分路的花生米350公吨，每公吨成本运费付至哥本哈根或任何其他主要欧洲口岸净价1 300美元，2000年10月/11月装船。此报价以九月二十五日前复到为有效。
