33. Bjork

Bjork is possibly the only person in the history of the 1) entertainment world ever to have made an interesting 2) acceptance speech at a major awards ceremony. As the best Female International Artist ai the 1996 Brit Awards, she 3) spared the audience the 4) conventional list of acknowledgments and banalities (平凡,陈腐) and picked instead four words that got to the heart of the matter. “I’m a grateful grapefruit”, she announced, and left the stage, 5) beaming with gratitude. It was a performance that would not be upstaged until, a few years later, she attended the Oscars dressed as a swan and laid eggs on the red carpet. She is undeniably 6) unique. In an increasingly homogenous (同源的) world of pop she has 7) dedicated herself to being different. Eccentricity (偏心,古怪) can be a tiresome thing if it’s forced or artificial, but 8) despite the thought she evidently invests in what she does(coming up with something as good as laying swan’s eggs at the Oscars takes effort), Bjork does not give the 9) impression of trying too hard. Nor has she simply picked up somebody else’s idea of easily marketable. She has intensity, depth and wit, and her 10) personality seems to surge up from inside her.
