本片以智商仅75的阿甘来观看世界，透过它单纯的思想以及善良的个性，描绘出美国50年代至90年代的历史，虽然40年间，美国历史有急剧的变化，但是弱智的阿甘突破智能的限制，以一贯的真诚和天生的直觉行动，反倒开创出自己的一片天地。

So I never went back to work for Lieutenant Dan, though he did take care of my Bubba Gump money. He got me invested3 in some kind of fruit company. So then I got a call from him saying “we don’t have to worry about money no more.” and I said: “That’s good. One less thing.” 5) ____. So I gave a whole bunch of it to the Forrest Square Gospel Church. And I gave a whole Fishing Hospital. And even though Bubba was dead and Lieutenant Dan said I was nuts4, I gave Bubba’s momma Bubba’s share. You know what? She didn’t have to work in nobody’s kitchen no more. And cause I was a god zillionaire5 and I like doing it so much, I cut that grass for free. But at night time when there was nothing to do and the house was all empty, I’d always think of Jenny.
