9. The Four Freedoms

背景知识

本文作者富兰克林·德拉诺·罗斯福(Franklin Delano Roosevelt,1882-1945),美国第32任总统,他一直被认为美国历史上最伟大的总统之一,是20世纪美国最不负众望和最受爱戴的总统,也是美国历史上唯一连任四届总统的人。本文为1941年1月6日罗斯福致美国国会的国情咨文中最为精彩的一部分。

In the future days, which we seek to make secure, we look forward to a world founded upon four 1) ______ human freedoms. The second is freedom of very personto 2)_____ God in his own way –everywhere in the world. The third is freedomfrom what –which, translated into world terms, means economic understandings which will secure to every nation a healthy peace time life for its 3)______ –everywhere in the world.
