Passage 1

信用证是对外贸易中最常使用的支付方式，本篇短文对此作了简要介绍，同时还介绍了信用证涉及的各方和银行间的关系。

The letter of credit is a kind of bank credit instead of commercial credit like remittance or collection．It is a written document drawn to the exporter by the bank at the request of the importer．By means of letter credit，both the seller and buyer are well protected．The exporter is assured of the paymentwhen he dispatches the goods，while the buyer is assured of the title to the goods before he pays for them．

In payment by letter of credit，there are six parties concerned．First of all，the applicant．The applicant is also called the opener，usually it is the importer．Then the opening or issuing bank and the advising or notifying bank．There is also the beneficiary，who is usually the exporter．The other parties need to mention are negotiating bank and the paying bank or in another word，the drawee bank．

本篇短文简要介绍了中国加入世界贸易组织五年之后的发展状况。从工业、农业和金融业等方面进行介绍。短文里面出现的数字是进行数字口译练习的好例子。

中国在2001年12月11日加入世界贸易组织时，庄严承诺到2005年将我国关税总水平降到10.1%，其中工业品平均关税降到9.3%，农产品降到15.6%。所有非关税措施都将取消，银行、证券、保险、分销、电信等重要服务部门所享受的2006年前的过渡优惠将逐步结束。

根据“入世”协议，从2001年12月到2006年，中国的一批城市将逐步开放，准许外资银行开办人民币业务。目前已有105家在华外资银行机构获准经营人民币业务，业务扩展到18个城市。到2007年外资银行在华人民币业务全面开放。

Passage 3

不可抗力是贸易活动中的常见概念，本篇短文对这一抽象概念作了简介，解释了其定义和包含的范围。

Force majeure is an event that can be neither anticipated nor reduced to control．Force majeure events enable a seller to avoid his contractual obligations without paying compensations or penalty．A force majeure clause in the contract should specify the scope of the force majeure events，consequences，time limit of notice to the other contractor，certificates and the agencies who issue them．In practice，we usually specify a force majeure clause in a sale contract follows:

In case of delayed shipment or non-delivery due to force majeure generally recognized，the sellermust advice the buyer immediately by cable of the occurrence，and within 14 days thereafter the seller must airmail to the buyer a certificate of the incident issued by the competent government authorities or Chamber of Commerce at the place where the incident occur as evidence thereof．The seller shall not be absolved from his responsibility unless such an incident is acknowledged by the buyer．

In case conditions of force majeure continue to last over and above 30 days，the buyer shall have the right to cancel the contract．The seller's failure to obtain export license shall not be considered as force majeure．

中国出口商品交易会(简称广交会)，创办于1957年春季。每年春秋两季在中国广州举行，由中华人民共和国商务部和广东省人民政府共同主办，是中国历史最长、层次最高、规模最大、商品种类最全、到会采购商最多且国别分布最广、成交效果最好的综合性国际贸易盛会，被誉为“中国第一展”。经过49年的发展，广交会已成为国内外商人心目中最可信的贸易促进品牌。每届广交会吸引着中国1万多家优秀企业和全球超过200个国家和地区的商家。2005年第98届广交会，参展商和采购商共30万人齐聚一堂，成交额超过290亿美元。广交会卓有成效的供采体系孕育着巨大商机。
