The science and technology is possible for us to be much more energy efficient．In fact，concentrating on energy efficiency more than renewable energies is a very obvious way of trying tomove toward our targets．We just have to convince enough of our fellow citizens to agree with us．You started by asking what my family does．Well，we have tried to change ourmental attitude—turning off appliances，turning off lights．My late father grew up with the belief that you didn't waste things like electricity．So，we would turn off the furnace at night．We would turn off all the lights when we left a room．And then，I confess，we got a little bit less aware．And I think most Americans did．So we weren't paying attention．We had so many utensils，appliances plugged into the walls and draining electricity all the time，and we would walk out of a roomwith all the lights on，and our big buildings would be lit all night long，and we wasted a lotof energy and we wasted a lot ofmoney．We can'tdo that．And so，beingmore efficientwill take us a long way toward whatwe need to achieve．But it is also clear that it is not only the developed countries，it is economies like China and India that have to become full partners．How you do it，given your challenges，is something we want to work on，because we will have different approaches．And Kyoto recognized that．Different approaches to common objectives are howwe have to consider the Copenhagen Treaty．

On China's diplomacy this year，letmemake the following four points．First，we should stay focused on one overarching objective that is to make every effort to serve the goal of ensuring sturdy and rapid economic development in China．Second，we should pursue two priorities．The first one is to make every effort to properly handle the impact of international financial crisis so as to serve the goal of preserving economic growth，the well-being of our people and stability in China．The second priority is tomake full preparations for the participation of Chinese leaders in a seriesof important multilateral activities to ensure their success．These major multilateral activities include among others the upcoming financial summit in London，the G8 plus five outreach session to be held in Italy in July this year，the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit and the meeting of prime ministers of the SCO member states，as well as the APEC economic leaders meeting to be held in November this year．What we hope is that with China's participation in these activities，we will help contribute to making the international order more fair and equitable．We should continue to work hard on the following three fronts．First，we should continue to advance security diplomacy to safeguard China's sovereignty，territorial integrity and security interests．Second，we will continue to pursue cultural diplomacy to increase the friendship and cooperation between the Chinese people and people of other countries．Third，we will strengthen consular protection to safeguard the lawful rights and interests of Chinese nationals and companies overseas．Asmore and more Chinese are travelling abroad and more and more Chinese companies are doing businesses overseas，we must do an even better job with consular protection．My 4th point is that we should continue to work hard in the following four areas．We will continue to promote the sturdy growth of China's relations with major countries，strengthen friendship with neighbouring countries，enhance solidarity and cooperation with other developing countries and take a continued active part in seeking proper settlement of global and regional hot-spot issues．
