C:So your claim on shortage of weight amounts to 84.82 tons in all.

C:We regret we cannot entertain your claim as it has nothing to do with us.I would like to point out,Mr.Ma,that the weight of the cargo on loading was taken by actual physical weighing of the product.The scales were checked and the captain of the ship was there to supervise the weighing.He can prove that full weight was delivered.

M:But on arrival the goods were found to be 35 tons short.Here are two reports submitted by our inspection authority.One testifies to the shortage of 35 tons on the landed weight.The second gives the analysis of moisture on the goods which was found to be higher than that stipulated.With the support of these two certificates,we must lodge a claim amounting to 84.82 tons.Besides this,the survey fee must be paid by you,too.

C:I think I can explain that.I see from your report that your weight is based on draft weight.Now draft weight calculations between one surveyor and another may easily vary.

M:But not to such a great extent.

C:No.Well,as we have every reason to respect the findings of your inspection administration,Mr.Ma,and in view of our friendly business relations,we are prepared to meet your claim for the 35 tons short weight.
