B:I see.But as you know,the world market has been rather inactive recently.Furthermore,our exchange quota is insufficient.Business isn’t as easy as it was.As we are long-standing buyers,we’d like to have your special consideration.Can we use D/P or D/A in this transaction?

L：对不起，恐怕我们不能接受D/P，更不能接受D/A。像你刚才所指出的，西方经济状况每况愈下，国际金融市场有起伏，为保护我们自己，我们觉得有必要在信用证基础上做业务，至少目前是如此。

B:Payment by L/C means additional cost for us.It’ll tie up our money and add to expenses.

L：布莱克先生，你知道得很清楚，中国商品在国外市场上声誉极好，你要的货品需求很大，销售良好。快速周转不但能抵销你开信用证的费用，而且会给你满意的利润。

B:Your explanation sounds reasonable,but we still feel that payment by L/C is not practical,especially at a time when the world market is dull.Anyway in order to conclude the business,I hope you will meet me halfway.What about 50% by L/C and the balance by D/P?

L：如我所说，布莱克先生，我们只接受信用证付款。很抱歉我们不能顺从你的要求。如果由于这样或那样的原因，这样大量的订货你有困难，我们建议你减掉一半，你可以在以后再补一个订单，订另外一半。

B:Well,I’ll order 10 tons then.Now could you see to it that shipment is made immediately on receipt of L/C,so as to step up our turnover?

L：当然我们会即期交货的。但你知道，在接到信用证以后，我们要备货和订舱位，这就需要时间。我想最好把装船期订为接到信用证以后15天以内。如果你想有把握按时得到货物，你最好在2月底前开出信用证，同时我们将尽力把一切东西准备好，这样在接到你们信用证以后就可毫无耽搁地装船。
