What will happen if the other party refuses to accept some proposed items in such as way that they are unacceptable? Good preparation requires that you establish two clear points:your alternatives and your limits.Alternatives (i.e.,best alternatives to this negotiated agreement,or BATNAs) are other agreements negotiators could achieve and still meet their needs.Alternatives are very important in both distributive and integrative processes because they define whether the current outcome is better than another possibilities.In any situation,the better the alternatives,the more power you have because you can resist or simply walk away from the current negotiation and still know that your needs and interests can be met.
