There are two common genres of negotiation:distributive negotiation and integrative negotiation.Distributive negotiation operates under zero-sum conditions which means that one party’s gain is at the expense of the other and vice versa.It is a win-lose game in which each negotiator strives for the largest piece of the pie.On the other hand,integrative negotiation attempts to create value in the course of the negotiation rather than divide the fixed “pie”.In other words,it is a win-win cooperation.The selection of negotiation genre differs according to different conditions,including deal goal,limit of time,etc.The third one is text-based negotiation.As its name implies,in this type of negotiation,negotiators aim to come up with an agreement accepted by each party.
