6.5.4 Pulse Charge

This technique involves using short time current or voltage pulses for charging.By changing the width of pulses the average of the current or voltage can be controlled.Pulse charging provides two significant advantages:(Ⅰ)it reduces charging time,(Ⅱ)the conditioning effect of this technique highly improves the life cycle. The intervals between pulses are called rest times, which play an important role, and they provide some time for chemical reactions inside the battery to take place and stabilize.Since in this method high rates of current or voltage can be used,it reduces undesirable chemical reactions that happen at the electrodes, such as gas formation and crystal growth, which are the most important reasons of life cycle reduction in batteries.
