Duties & Responsibilities of Bell Service

Job Description

Transporting guests’ luggage is one of the main bellman duties.At luxury hotels,bell service staff are typically responsible for unloading luggage,as well as delivering the luggage to a guest’s room after check-in.Bell service staff also store luggage for guests as needed before or after check-in/check-out,and usually load it directly into the taxicab or rental vehicle upon request.

Bellman responsibilities include assisting guests with making arrangements for local activities.They help guests buy tickets to shows or local attractions,make reservations at restaurants and arrange for a massage or spa treatment.Bellmen can also assist with getting a rental car,as well as calling for and to hire a cab for guests.Bell service staff often give advice on recommending restaurants in various price ranges and local attractions.

Education Requirements

Becoming a bellman requires no more than a high school education.The median annual salary of all bellhops and baggage porters,including those who handle baggage at airports and other terminals,is $22,260 as of May 2016.Men and women providing bell service are paid tips on top of their base salary.

Bell service is most commonly provided throughout the travel industry.You’ll find bellmen at hotels,train terminals,airport terminals,ports and other travel hubs where people need assistance.As a customer service position,you must be prepared to interact with different people.

Years of Experience

Most bellman duties are learned on the job,so the more experience you have generally makes you more valuable.Additionally,the longer you work in bell service,the more your base salary increases.As you become more confident and comfortable in your bellman responsibilities,you may also earn more in tips.
