Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport is the major international airport in Chengdu,as well as an important aviation hub to western China.For international tourists,Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport is a highly recommended gateway to Chengdu with its satisfying facilities,convenient transportations,and favorable visa policy.

The airport,formerly named Shuangguisi Airport,opened as an auxiliary military airfield in 1938 during the World War II.When the US was shocked into World War II with the Pearl Harbor attack,the airport became known as “Shuangliu Airfield” as it was later used by the United States Army Air Forces as part of the China Defensive Campaign.

On December 12,1956,the Shuangguisi Airport was put under civil aviation and renamed Chengdu Shuangliu Airport.In 1957,the flight courses from Chengdu were opened to various cities within China including Beijing,Taiyuan,Xi’an,etc.The airport went through several earlier expansions in 1959,1967,1983 and 1991 respectively.

The airport has two terminal buildings,Terminal 1 and Terminal 2,covering an area of 500,000 square meters (about 124 acres).Complete and advanced facilities and services are available in both terminals,including international and domestic transfer,VIP lounge,banks,dining,shopping,recreation and other dedicated services.There are 74 boarding bridges,64 security channels,and 207 check-in counters.The airport provides flights to more than 50 international destinations and over 170 domestic airports,and is a hub for Chengdu Airlines,Air China and Sichuan Airlines.It is linked to downtown Chengdu by the Airport Expressway,the Chengdu–Mianyang–Leshan intercity railway and the newly built Chengdu Metro Line 10.

Since December 1,2019,Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport implemented 144-hour visa-free transit policy that holders of passports issued by 53 countries do not need a visa to Chengdu through Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport.In 2019,the passenger throughput of Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport reached 55.859 million,of which the International (regional) cargo throughput reached 6.738 million.
