(1)X (The wedding) took place in the winter of Y (2016).It was held in Z (the most popular cathedral of my city).
(2)We had X (my 18th birthday party) in a Y (western-style restaurant in the CBD).
Salmon begin life as eggs on a pebbly riverbed, hidden among reeds in the slow- moving upper reaches of a river.After five to six months the eggs hatch into ‘fry’.For approximately the next four years, these baby salmon will live in the lower, faster-flowing waters of their river.During this time they measure between three and eight centimeters in length.
By the time salmon reach twelve to fifteen centimeters, they are termed ‘smolt’, and at this time they migrate further downriver into the open sea.After five years at sea the salmon will have grown to adult size, which is between seventy and seventy-six centimeters.They then begin swimming back to their birthplace, where they will lay their eggs, and the cycle starts anew.(音频160)
铺垫故事:recently, earlier, many years ago, when I was 8/ in my primary school, back then;
开头:at first in the beginning, to begin/start with;
然后/接下来:after (that), afterwards, after (quite) a while, later, next, soon (很快), soon/ shortly after, then, following on, from that;
最后:finally, at last, eventually, in the end, ever after;
例如:He made his effort to enter Shandong University, but he was not satisfied and then went to Australia for a master degree.In the end he managed to climb the ladder of success in his beloved computer science industry.(音频161)
描述即时情况:immediately, soon, suddenly, all of a sudden, at that moment, as soon as, the moment, at the same time/in the meantime, while/(in the) meanwhile , when;
直到:till, not…until;
其他:from then on/since 从那以后, before…, during…
A time you missed an important appointment for something.
You should say:
When and where it happened;
What the appointment was for;
What happened when you missed it;
And explain how you felt about the appointment.
铺垫和扣题:As a job-hunter (求职者),I think the most crucial appointment I’v ever missed was an interview with an interviewer from a potential employer, my most favorite company – Apple.(音频162)
Before we got in touch with each other, I’d sent many E-mail with resumes to bomb their inbox, and finally I got that chance by the end of last year.It was a few days before the Christmas when I received a call from the Human Resource department in the Shaanxi branch of Apple.A lady informed me that I was offered an opportunity to be interviewed by a specific colleague of her.(音频163)
On December 12th, I got up much earlier than usual and was supposed to meet an HR officer in a coffee shop besides the Bell Tower, which is the landmark of Xi’an city.Although the transportation there is quite convenient with Subway Line 2 connected, I chose to take bus, the station of which is a little bit closer to my place.(音频164)
经过和迟到原因(物品类——交通):I was told to be present at 9 AM and I hit the road a few minutes to 8.This trip should cost me around half an hour normally, so I didn’t worry about being late at all until my bus was trapped in the middle of a busy cross.At that time, I noticed that two private cars collided into each other not far away causing the congestion, but it didn’t make any sense.(音频165)
感受和反思+再次扣题(物品类——交通):After all vehicles were released,it was already 9:30, even I hurried and made every effort to be on time after that jam, I just failed to attend that arranged appointment.Now I still feel so regret about missing that valuable chance.But a man can’t step into the same river twice, so I become a punctual person since then with that serious lesson in mind.And I’d prefer using underground train to other modes because routing could be well scheduled regardless of its noteworthy crowdedness during peak hours.(音频166)
It’s the candidate’s responsibility to arrange his or her time and route properly to attend the interview on time.Being late would easily make the interviewer take it as a lack of sincerity and disrespect.
Describe a time when you arrived very early for an appointment.
You should say:
When and where it happened;
Why you arrived early; ①
What you did while waiting; ②
And explain how you felt about arriving early.③
和刚才的题目“A time you missed an important appointment for something”对比一下,发现基本上只是把迟到变成了早到。
As a job-hunter, I think the most crucial appointment I’v ever missed was an interview with an interviewer from a potential employer, my most favorite company – Apple.
① Before we got in touch with each other, I’d sent many E-mail with resumes to bomb their inbox, and finally I got that chance by the end of last year.It was a few days before the Christmas when I received a call from the HR department in the Shaanxi branch of Apple.A lady informed me that I was offered an opportunity to be interviewed by a specific colleague of her.As you know, not just being interested in their corporate culture, also attracted by the considerable terms of employment they may provide, I decided to arrive there as early as possible to make me feel secure.
② On December 12th, I got up much earlier than usual and was arranged to meet their officer in a coffee shop besides the Bell Tower.Although the bus station is a little bit closer to my place, I chose to take Subway Line 2 in case of any traffic congestion during the busy Monday Morning.(之前迟到是因为坐了公交没坐地铁,这次早到就是因为交通方式换过来了。) I was told to be present at 9 AM and I hit the road a few minutes to 7.This trip costs me around half an hour normally, so I reached that café at about 7:30.Trying to kill time, I ordered a cup of continent style coffee, starting to enjoy the view through the window.
③ during that time waiting, I noticed a car collision not far away causing a heavy traffic jam, which lasted till the beginning of my interview.Now I still feel so lucky about allowing myself abundant time preparing there instead of being trapped on the road to miss that valuable chance.People say: a man can’t step into the same river twice, I felt comfortable to be a punctual person with a previous and serious lesson in mind.And I’d prefer using underground train to other modes because routing could be well scheduled regardless of its noteworthy crowdedness during peak hours.(音频167)

A short trip you often take but dislike
You should say:
Where you usually go;
Whom you go with;
When you take the trip;
And explain why you dislike this trip.

An event in history in your country
You should say:
When and where it happened; ①
How you know it; ②
What happened; ③
And how you feel about this event.④
Well, being a local in Xi’an, I may be most familiar with the spectacular event of building our historic landmark – The Bell Tower and city wall, which was really a grand occasion at that age.(音频168)
① Actually, I can’t name the exact time about when it was built, but I know this happened during the Hongwu Period of Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang’s reign during the Ming Dynasty, so I guess this should be more than 600 years ago.And, taking account of Xi’an’s crucial strategic position in my country, former governor made it a potential capital option, and then planed and constructed these infrastructure.(音频169)
② I was told this affair when I was a little boy and in my history class.Because these buildings sit right in the center of my city, attracting mountains of people with a high historical and artistic value, I could hear visitors or local citizens discussing their origin from time to time.(音频170)
③ In Chinese history, Xi’an has been a key geographical point to defend other nations.After emperor Zhu took control of this country, he thought the Great Wall alone wasn’t safe enough to protect his land and cities, and then, he gathered thousands of architects and work hands to design and carry out related constructions.The function of these projects was to provide early warning of attack by rival rulers and hold back them during wartime.Finally, it took 8 years to complete such a massive engineering work, and these have been the largest and best-preserved of their kind in China.(音频171)
④ You know, as I mentioned just now, no matter whether these defensive programs have been put in use or not, each time I pass by these buildings or when foreigners share their positive feelings after visiting them, I would feel so proud.What’s more, emperor Zhu’s decision and strategy on ‘building up solid cities and storing abundant resources for conditions unexpected’ has influenced numerous renowned leaders in Chinese history, and among them, the most famous one might be chairman Mao who was the key establisher of the PRC (People’s Republic of China).(音频172)

Describe a time when you received money as a present.
You should say:
Who gave it;
When you received it;
How you spend the money;
And how you feel about it.
对多数同学来讲,把收钱为礼放在过年背景下收压岁钱(new year/lucky money)或红包(money in red envelopes)是最好说的,用途可包括支付学费(pay the tuition fee)等。
题目:An occasion that you received a good service from a restaurant or shop.
You should say:
What the service was; ①
When and where you received the service; ②
Whom you were together with; ③
And explain why you think it was a good service.④
态度(Attitude):
Being prompt doesn’t mean rushing or hovering, but it does mean taking care of customers’ needs in an appropriate time frame.
Having to wait 5 or even 10 minutes for drink refills, butter, sauce or the check can quickly make a good dining experience turn sour.Customers can feel awkward when wondering if they should remind their servers about the request.They may even eat food without the proper condiments or a beverage.Hence the servicing staff might be encouraged to offer prompt service by keeping lists of customer needs or to care for one customer before moving on to the next.
Good service in the restaurant industry means friendly, welcoming service.Such exceptional service occurs when service workers take a genuine interest in their customers.
For example, waiters might ask customers about their day, help them make food choices and give customers compliments (恭维).This kind of good service should be encouraged by honoring staff who are exceptionally gifted in this area and having them train others.
(The Service):
Sometimes, good customer service simply means being available.Customers who can see managers or waitstaff are more likely to give them the opportunity to provide good customer service by making requests.
Many diners are hesitant to actually walk into the bar or to the counter to ask for something, and a customer should never have to shout into the kitchen.Just by knowing the servicing staff visible, the customers feel they are having a better experience because they know if they need something, people involved are right there, available to help.
Customers can get good food and decent customer service almost anywhere.What will set one restaurant apart is the degree to which the staff is willing to go above and beyond to be exceptional.
Restaurant employees can practice this kind of customer service by being willing to make special creations for guests, offering them drinks to go, bringing mints after dinner and engaging in other little practices that show they are going above and beyond the competition.(音频177)
① Well, you know, my best experience of being served in a shop was got in the ‘King Cross’ café.
The reason why I’d like to share this occasion is that I was so satisfied and I believe that’s the top service I’v ever received.Because I never expect that the steward would just stay nearby and answer you immediately when you raise your hand or just look around.However, you don’t have to worry about their violence of your privacy since they seem to know how to keep a comfortable distance with their guests.
② This coffee shop is located in the Chadstone Shopping center, in the suburb of Melbourne, offering all kinds of coffee, domestic and international flavors.During the month in that city after my graduation, I heard about and decided to visit this so-called biggest shopping mall in the south hemisphere, a few days before the Boxing Day.(也可以在我们熟悉的钟楼——建筑地点类话题借用一部分)
③ I was accompanied by one of my classmates, Ms.H.(我们熟悉的H 小姐——人物类话题借用一部分) She is really a person with sweet heart and always takes care of children in her neighbourhood.So, She became my best friend during my postgraduate studies.
I believe good service would always meet the customer’s expectation.And, I didn’t expect they could serve me with such a high standard in that shop.Because as my previous experience, sometimes, or many times, I had to wait 5 or even 10 minutes for drink refills, butter, sauce or the check, so I can feel awkward when wondering if I should remind the servers about my request.In certain conditions, I may even eat food without the proper condiments or a beverage.So, when I was treated so satisfactorily, their service was regarded as good from my point of view.(音频178)

Describe a meal you invited others to have at your home or in a restaurant.
You should say:
Who you invited;
Where you ate;
What you ate;
And explain how they felt about this meal.
Part 3:
Why do some people prefer having important meals in a restaurant than cooking at home?
Does having a meal at home make people closer to each other?
Do Chinese people eat more or less frequently in a restaurant than it 30 years ago?
Would you emphasize more on food quality or service when you eat in a restaurant?
If you were invited to eat at your friend’s, would you be expected to bring a gift?
Describe a time you received bad service at a shop or a restaurant.
You should say:
What goods or services you bought;
Who you were with when you were served;
Why you went there;
And explain how you felt about the service.
Part 3:
What kinds of services are bad services?
Why do some people choose to remain silent when they receive bad services?
Who should be responsible for bad services?
As a boss, what would you do to prevent bad services?
Describe a complaint that you made and you were satisfied with the result.
You should say:
When it happened;
Who you complained to;
What you complained about;
And why you were satisfied with result.
An experience that you are not allowed to use your mobile phone.
You should say:
Where you were;
When it happened;
What you did there;
And why you were not allowed to use your phone.
The reason why I wasn’t promised to touch my cell-phone was that we were supposed to communicate verbally during the reunion dinner.But, as we all know, many smart-phone addicted friends must take pictures and post them to their social network, before eating and chatting.Besides, in such occasions, many of us don’t talk and share our latest news much, and even don’t listen to each other carefully, which always leads to unhappiness and disappointment.As a result, we adopted a game called ‘mobile phone stack’ originated from California.Well, the rules of the game is very simple, all the people are asked to eat all the time and stack our mobile phones together, maybe in the center of the table, and who can’t bear to touch his or her one should pay for the meal as the punishment.Finally, one of my friends paid the bill for breaking such law.(音频179)
Describe a time that you needed to bring the cellphone.
You should say:
When and where it happened;
Why you needed to bring the cellphone;
What you did;
And explain how you felt about it.
The reason why I was required to take my cell-phone was that: before the reunion dinner last year we played a game called ‘mobile phone stack’ to allow us more time to communicate with each other verbally.As we all know, many smart-phone addicted friends must take pictures and post them to their social network, before eating and chatting.Besides, in such occasions, many of us don’t talk and share our latest news much, and even don’t listen to each other carefully, which always leads to unhappiness and disappointment.Well, the rules of the game is very simple, all the people are asked to eat all the time and stack our mobile phones together, maybe in the center of the table, and who can’t bear to touch his or her one should pay for the meal as the punishment.
And explain how you felt about it: Finally, one of my friends paid the bill for breaking such law.At that time, we all felt a little embarrassed, especially the one punished.However, when it becomes a custom, everyone benefits from it.Because modern technologies alienate us, we have to adopt some compulsory measures to enhance our face-to-face communication.(音频180)
Describe a class of science you learned in the high school
You should say:
What it is;
What do you learn about;
How about the teacher;
And explain how you feel about it.
此题是对“Describe an English lesson you have taken”的稍加改动,也是对“Describe a subject that you like/dislike in your high school”做的细节替换。
Biology is the science which is concerned with the study of living beings.We all know that creatures interact with the environment, both of which constitute our eco-system.Therefore, it’s not just interesting but also essential to learn and be concerned about this subject.Obviously, this class’v has had great influence on me.Since then, I’v always been bearing the importance of living things around in mind, and try to protect our habitat more effectively and scientically with knowledge and principles acquired from this subject.(音频181)
Describe a time that a piece of equipment of yours was broken (such as TV).
You should say:
What it was;
What problem it had;
What you did after it was broken;
How you felt about it.
Describe a time you solved a problem online.
You should say:
When and where it happened;
What problem you solved;

Is the Internet more efficient in solving problems?
How can you motivate old people to use the Internet for problem-solving?
What are the disadvantages of solving problems online?
As a manager of a company, would you prefer your customers to solve problems online or offline in a customer service center?
回答“Describe a time that you looked for information from the Internet.”
Describe an occasion when you were scared.
You should say:
When it happened;

Describe a time when you had some medicine.
You should say:
When it happened;
Who gave it to you;
Why you had it;
How you felt about it.
This topic reminds me of the days when I was suffering from a specific pain in my chest.
It was during my postgraduate studies in Australia, a few years ago.You know, Tasmania is a freezing place close to the Antarctica, I came down with aches around my ribs which may be caused by catching cold.Since I couldn’t sleep well, I took some Amoxicillin capsules as per instructions printed on the package, which I brought from home.Luckily, my physical conditions didn’t seem to deteriorate, but I still suspected that it’s a heart disease because the pain didn’t get relieved either.
Then, I booked medical server appointment of the nearest hospital, and finally met a kind doctor a few days after booking.This gentle man was a little aged with white beard, also appeared to be very experienced and skilled.He carried out thorough checkup on me first, and asked about my symptom (症状)。
Interestingly, when he knew that I was taking Amoxicillin, he was really surprised and questioned me about the source of those medicines.Because, you know, such drug should be restricted, and a prescription is a must for use and purchase.After I explained clearly, he confirmed with me that Amoxicillin did show certain effectiveness in suppressing my aches.As a temporary treatment method, he gave a prescription of advanced Amoxicillin to me, or something named super or plus, which I can’t remember exactly.
So I began to have those big pills daily, before my blood test results were released.Actually, I can’t recall whether those pills were bitter or not today, but they were my life-saving straw that time indeed.And through that issue, I realized the importance of being healthy, and how essential prescriptions could be in the western world, as they are in current China.(音频182)

Explain why it was enjoyable.
A time that you were really close to a wild animal.
(4)An occasion a person/something that made you laugh.

(7)A time you were very busy.
And explain why you were that busy.
(8)A bicycle/ motorbike/ car trip that is interesting that you want to go .(将来)
A trip you had by bicycle, motobike or car.(过去)

A vehicle you want to own in the future .
(9)An interesting or unusual thing you did recently.
当然,试驾动力强大的BMW 也是有趣而不寻常的,因为:when you switch the mode to sports instead of the economical or comfortable side, the car would rush forward as pushed by a rocket, and the speed would easily reach 180 km/h in just a few seconds.
(10)Describe an interesting conversation you had with a stranger.
(11)Describe a time you lost something important.
(12)Describe a time you borrowed something from your friends or family.
此题和物品类“Describe something useful you borrowed from others”可结合。
(13)Describe a time when you moved to a new school or home.
