Parents’Role in Their Children’s Growth

What a thought-provoking picture it is！A girl tells her mother that she has been admitted to the college of her mother’s choice.Having heard the good news，her mother beams with satisfaction.Simple as the picture is，it reveals a prevalent yet upsetting phenomenon in our contemporary society：Parents tend to act as the decision-makers in their children’s growth.

From my point of view，it is a wise parent that functions as a good teacher，a helpful friend and a private counsellor when children are growing up.To start with，parents should strive to be the best teachers of their children. Besides instilling knowledge，they are supposed to expose their children to age-appropriate challenges.Furthermore， parents can be their children’s friends，sharing their joys and sorrows and knowing their interests and abilities. Finally，parents can serve as private counsellors of their children，giving advice about their problems rather than making decisions for them so as to allow them to become more independent.

To conclude，children should be treated as active and unique constructors of their own reality and parents should be teachers，friends and counsellors in their growth.
