The Importance of Being Participants in Life

About a century ago，the great Chinese writer Lu Xun slammed the onlooking psychology as one of the deep-rooted bad habits of Chinese people.Even until now，his criticism makes some sense.There is no doubt that we should never go out there to see what happens；instead，we should go out there to make things happen.Only when we participate more actively，can we make things happen in the direction we anticipate.

As is often the case，people who don’t hesitate to take actions to solve problems make great achievements. Examples like this are numerous，but I think the following one is convincing enough.Intent on finding drug therapy for malaria，Tu Youyou，together with her colleagues，eventually obtained a pure substance called“Qinghaosu” before other foreign scientists did.Had she not taken prompt actions to discover a new approach to malaria treatment， she wouldn’t have been the first Chinese Nobel laureate in medicine.

In summary，active participation is a key to our success in the ever-changing world.Therefore，we college students should not just be onlookers but contributing participants in changing the world for the better.
