三、重要短语及句型的对比

1.than

（1）no more than 只不过，仅仅

例：What he said is no more than a lie.

他说的不过是个谎言。

（2）no more...than... 和……一样不……

例：He could no more be a good father than I could be.他跟我一样都不是好父亲。

（3）would rather...than... 宁愿……而不……，后接动词原形。

例：I’d rather stay at home than go traveling.

我宁愿待在家里而不去旅游。

（4）no sooner...than... 一……就……

例：No sooner did I open my door than a robber got into.我刚把房门打开一个强盗就冲了进来。

2.more

（1）more and more 越来越多地、逐渐地

例：More and more beautiful new buildings stand up.

越来越多的漂亮的新建筑矗立了起来。

（2）the more...，the more/less... 越……就越……

例：The more math exercises I did，the better I understand it.

数学练习做得越多，就理解得越好。

3.why

（1）why don’t... 为什么不……/……不好吗

例：Why don’t you stay with me for a couple of days？到我这儿来住几天不好吗？

4.too

（1）too+形容词/副词+to do sth. 太……以至不能……

例：I am too tired to continue walking.我太累了走不动了。

（2）too...for sb./sth. 对于某人或某物来说，……太……

例：The dog’s barking is too noisy for her.

她感觉狗的叫声太吵了。

5.so，that

（1）so...that... 如此……以致……

例：He lives so far away from us that we cannot see each other frequently.

他住得离我们太远了，所以我们难得见面。

（2）...so that... ……以便……

例：He speaks loudly so that everyone can hear him.

6.表示目的的短语

（1）in order to do sth. 为了，以便

例：He got up late so he didn’t have breakfast in order to catch the train.

他起来晚了，因此为了赶火车他没吃早饭。

（2）so...as to be 太……以至于……

例：The worms are so small as to be invisible.

这些虫子太小了几乎看不见。

7.until

（1）not...until... 直到……才……

例：He didn’t start to work until his boss entered.

（1）be used to（doing）sth. 习惯于（做）某事

例：He is used to swimming in the river.

9.if

（1）what if 如果（假设）……怎么办

例：What if we cannot afford her education in college？
