榆林窟位于瓜州县西南75公里处踏实河东西两岸的山谷中。第25窟主室为覆斗顶，平面呈方形。主室正壁（东壁）绘八大菩萨曼荼罗。左壁（北壁）绘弥勒经变。右壁（南壁）绘观无量寿经变。前壁（西壁）门两侧绘文殊、普贤变。

此窟建造于吐蕃占领瓜州的中唐时期。从洞窟形制、壁画内容和布局、人物造型的表现技法和艺术风格来看，明显继承了盛唐特点。但八大菩萨的样式、壁画中的古藏文题记、吐蕃装人物等内容又表现出明显的吐蕃因素。
