8.1 Summary of research outcomes

Starting from a multimodal perspective,this book explores how coherence is achieved between the visual and verbal semiotic modes in the print English learning advertisements.It has been driven by four research questions:(i)genre features of the English learning advertisements,(ii)the development of an analytical tool for coherence construction in multimodal discourses,(iii)the way in which visual and verbal elements cohere at the global,local and surface level of the discourse,and(iv)the reader's responses to the textual coherence construction in the advertisements.In the following the outcomes and findings in this book will be summarized and discussed according to the four research goals.
