A recommendation letter or a letter of recommendation，also known as a letter of reference，is a document in which the writer assesses the qualities，characteristics，and capabilities of the student being recommended in terms of that individual's ability to enter a university．Recommendation letters for studying abroad are usually specifically requested to be written aboutsomeone by one's teachers or professors，and are therefore addressed to a particular admission institution or a person．Letters of recommendation can be provided via emails as well as in a formal written letter．
