1.5.3.4 4.Adjectives That Cannot Be Compared不可比较的形容词
4.Adjectives That Cannot Be Compared不可比较的形容词

The positive degree of some adjectives already states a quality that cannot be compared.

一些形容词的原级已经指明了事物完满的程度,因此没有比较级形式。

For example:A full glass tells it all;you cannot have another glass that is fuller or a third glass that is the fullest.Full is the absolute degree,so this adjective cannot be compared.Other absolute adjectives are:

accurate immaculate sound

complete level spotless

correct perfect straight

unique final even

right dead square

To indicate the degree to which a person or thing approaches the state of being full or complete or correct, use more nearly or most nearly.

但有时为指明事物接近完满状态的程度,可使用more nearly或most nearly。

Louise's estimate proved to be correct.Except for Louise's,Joe's estimate was more nearly correct than any of the others.

Only yesterday's vote was unanimous;however, last week's vote was more nearly unanimous than any of the others that had been done.
