3．Articles冠词

a．Repeat the article before each of two connected nouns or adjectives to refer to two different persons or things．When two or more adjectives modify the same noun，use the article before the first adjective only．

冠词重复往往表示所修饰的对象并非同一事物。两个或两个以上形容词修饰同一名词，只需在第一个形容词前加定冠词。

b．When two related nouns signify an object considered to be a unit，use the article before the first noun only．

单用一个冠词则表示其后事物为一整体。

The president and general manager is in charge of the meeting．

The macaroni and cheese was unappetizing．

c．When the article is repeated before nouns in a series，emphasis is given to the distinctness of the nouns．

在列举的一系列词前加冠词往往表示强调的意味。

Compare the following sentences:

d．Do not use a or an before a noun following the expressions such as:kind of，manner of，sort of，style of，and type of．

在kind of，manner of，sort of，style of和type of及类似的句式中一般不用不定冠词a或an。
