Fruit trees grow between paddies;

Cucumber vines grow along the ground.

If they produce fruit and cucumbers,

When can I pick them?

If I pick them,they will be sweet.

Grains of rice in a winnowing basket,

And oranges at the tips of the branches,

Must be ripe before they can be eaten.

They must be eaten before they can be swallowed.
