拜占庭编年史是拜占庭历史作品的重要组成部分。虽然这类作品具有大体相似的写作格式和风格，但是一些作者还是在规范的写作中，突出了对各自所在时代历史的描写，因此，这类作品包含了大量有用的历史信息。
