乾陵位于乾县城北6千米处的梁山上，是唐高宗李治（公元628—683年）与其皇后，女皇帝武则天（公元624—705年）的合葬墓陵，墓因山为陵，气势雄伟壮观。梁山有三峰：北峰最高，海拔1047.9米，高宗和武则天两帝的合葬墓就在北峰中；南面两峰较低，东西对峙，中间夹着司马道，故取名为“乳峰”。从乾陵夹道门踏上石阶路，共计537级台阶，其台阶高度差为81.68米。走完台阶即是一条平宽的道路，直通“唐高宗陵墓”。

Located on the Liangshan Hill，some six kilometers to the north of Qian County，the mausoleum is the co－burial place of Emperor Gaozong Li Zhi（628－683 AD）and his queen，Empress Wu Zetian（624－705 AD）of the Tang Dynasty.Since the whole hill is the site of the mausoleum it looks very grandiose and magnificent and consists of three peaks.The main peak at the north stands some 1 047 meters high with the two smaller peaks on the east and west.The peaks，a little to the south and opposite each other，look very much like teats，hence they are known as the Teat Peaks.To reach the entrance there is a flight of 537steps.They are paved with stone－slates and have an upward inclination of 81.68 meters.They are followed by a somewhat flat road that approaches the mausoleum shared by Emperor Gaozong and Empress Wu Zetian.
