西岳庙距华山山门以北7千米，创建于汉代，是我国历代封建帝王祭祀华岳的神庙，庙内古木参天，碑刻很多，建筑也极为宏伟，有灏灵殿、万寿阁、五凤楼等建筑群。灏灵门则是西岳庙的山门，形式与北京的天安门类似。

历史上的华山被人们称为神山，位于华山以北7千米的西岳庙是历代帝王祭祀华山神的场所，1988年被国务院公布为全国重点文物保护单位。因此，游览华山，不可不去西岳庙。

西岳庙坐北朝南，是五岳庙中惟一正对主峰的祭庙。西岳庙的整体布局前窄后宽，建筑布局前低后高，制高点在庙后的万寿殿上。站在这里，南望华山主峰，与庙内的主要建筑西凤楼、大殿、御书房，恰成一条线。这也正是整个庙宇的中轴线，并且一直延伸到华山主峰。站在这条中轴线上的任何地方，都可以看见华山五峰。

由于西岳庙在历史上主要是皇家及达官显贵的祭祀场所，又是皇帝外出巡视的必到之地，在选址上可谓匠心独具：它位于开阔的平原上，一面面对华山主峰，另一面背靠渭河、黄河、洛河三水交汇之处，一旦有意外情况发生，水、陆两路都能进能退。

The Xiyue Temple，where the Gods of the Mount Hua are enshrined by many emperors，is 7 kilometers north of the gate of the Mount Hua and was built in the Han Dynasty.It has many grand structures such as the Haoling Hall，the Wanshou Pavilion，the Wufeng Tower，and many tablets with inscriptions by different emperors in different dynasties.The Haoling Gate is the mountain gate of the temple.Its shape is quite similar to Tian'anmen in Beijing.

In the past，the Mount Hua was regarded as mountain of divinity and the temple，which lies seven kilometers north of it，served as a place for the emperors of different dynasties to hold sacrificial ceremonies to the God of the Mount Hua.In 1988，this temple was categorized as a national monument. Since then，it has become a popular tourist attraction.

The Xiyue Temple is the only sacrificial temple among the temples of the Five Mountains and it faces south and the highest peak of the mountain.As far as the overall layout is concerned，the front is narrow and the back wide.The complex looks low in the front and high at the back with the Wanshou Palace at the highest spot.Standing here，you can see the highest peak of the Mount Hua in the south.It is on the same axial line with the main buildings，such as the Xifeng Tower，the Main Hall and the Imperial Study.This line is exactly the axis of the temple which extends to the highest peak of the Mount Hua. Standing anywhere on the axis，you can see the five peaks of the Mount Hua.

Since the Xiyue Temple used to be a sacrificial temple for the imperial families and a necessary stop for the inspection tours of emperors，the location of this temple was carefully chosen.It is located on a vast plain with the highest peak of the Mount Hua in front and the Weihe River，the Yellow River and the Luohe River merged together at its back.If anything unexpected happens，it is safe to retreat either by land or the rivers.

一位游人见一路标上面写着：“此路不通，请换路前进！”他看了看前面，没有发现有什么问题。于是他便决定继续前进，心想这路标一定是开玩笑的。过了一会儿，他果然看见一座断桥，他只好退回去。当他又来到路标处时，只见路标背面写着这样几个字：“欢迎你回来，傻瓜！”

A tourist saw a road which read“No Through Way.Please Go Another Way.”He looked ahead and saw nothing wrong at all.He decided to go on，thinking the sign was a kind of joke.After a while he saw a broken bridge and had to turn back.When he came back to the sign on the road，he saw these words on its backside：“Welcome Back，You Fool！”
