半坡的墓葬区在壕沟的北边，共有170座成人墓葬。那时，半坡人无论是多人合葬还是单人独葬，男女都是分开的，没有一座墓葬是男女合葬墓，这就是母系社会的特点。当时实行对偶婚，男人“嫁”给女人。因此孩子只知其母，不知其父。母亲是一家之主，孩子随其母。这就是为什么没有一个墓是男女合葬的原因。还有二次葬、俯身葬、屈肢葬等，对婴幼儿则采取了瓮棺葬的形式。另外，在遗址里还发现了一座用木板作葬具的女孩墓，随葬品丰富而且精美。

每个墓里有3～4件随葬品，一般是碗、盘、瓶和其他一些烹饪用品。这些随葬品大多放在死者的腿附近。这一点说明，6 000年前人们就已经产生了灵魂概念。他们相信人死后要去另一个世界，所以，应该带上其日常用品。

To the north of the protective moat lies the burial section of Banpo Village.It was the place where adults were buried.Altogether 170 graves were excavated. At the time of Banpo's occupation，males and females were separately buried either in groups or singly.There was not a grave where a man and a woman were buried together.This indicates a matriarchal society when exogamy was practiced.At that time a man was“married”to a woman but their children only recognized their mothers instead of their fathers.The family was always headed by the mother；children followed their mother.Besides，there were still second－time burials，burials with bodies lying upside down or burials with lower limbs bent.Children were buried in jars.In addition a girl's tomb was found in which a wooden board was used to support her body and there were rich and beautiful articles.

There were three or four burial objects in every tomb.They included bowls，plates，bottles and other pottery cooking vessels.The burial objects were usually placed near the legs of the deceased. From this，we can see that 6 000 years ago the primitive people of Banpo already believed that eve ryone had a soul.They believed that people would go to live in another world after their death，so they buried the dead together with their daily utensils.
