陕西历史博物馆是一座国家级现代化的大型博物馆，位于大雁塔西北1 000米处，由一组占地约7万平方米的雄伟壮观的仿唐建筑群组成。它汇集了陕西文物精华，展现了中华文明的发展过程。鉴于陕西在中国历史上的地位，国家投资了1.44亿元人民币兴建了这座博物馆，于1991年6月建成开放。

这座由中国著名女建筑师张锦秋设计、建筑面积达5.6万平方米的大型建筑物，既反映了古都的帝王气势，又兼收并蓄了传统园林和民居的设计手法，整体采用黑、白、灰等淡雅的色调，创造了一个庄严、质朴、宏伟、具有浓郁传统文化气氛的现代空间环境。

陕西历史博物馆是中国古典宫殿建筑和庭院建筑的完美结合。参观者来到高大明亮的展览厅门前，犹如置身历史的入口处。展出的2 000多件文物，是从馆藏的11.3万件文物中精选出来的，大部分属于国家一、二级文物，其中不少是不久才从省内各地征调来的精华。在中国历史上，曾经有15个朝代在陕西建都，历时1500多年。因此，从某种角度来说，陕西古代历史是中国历史的缩影。

The Shaanxi History Museum is a sizable national museum with a wide range of modern facilities.It is located one kilometer northwest of the Dayan Pagoda.The entire building complex portrays the architectural features of the Tang Dynasty.It covers an area of 70 000 square meters，and houses the best cultural he－ritage relics of Shaanxi Province and shows the development of Chinese civilization.In view of Shaanxi's special historic position in Chinese history，the Chinese government invested 144 million yuan in the establishment of this museum.It was completed and opened to the public in June of 1991.

The museum is a huge building covering 56 000 square meters，which was designed by the famous lady architect Zhang Jinqiu.It embodies not only the magnificence of a royal edifice but also combines the layout of the traditional art of gardening and dwellings of populace.Using simple tones of black，white and gray it creates a feeling of solemnity，simplicity and splendor and a state－of－the－art atmosphere rich in traditional culture.

The museum assumes the architectural features of ancient Chinese palaces and courtyards.When visitors come to the bright and spacious hall in the center，they'll feel as if they were at the entrance of Chinese history.The more than 2 000 cultural relics on show were all selected in a meticulous way from among 113 000 pieces stored here in this museum.Most of them are relics of grade one or two under the protection of the State with many of them being the crème de la crème gathered from all over the pro－vince.In history，15 dynasties established their capitals in Shaanxi Province，with ration of more than 1 500 years.In a way，the ancient history of Shaanxi is a microcosm of Chinese history.
