The Broadway Mansions Hotel， once a landmark of Shanghai， has been standing by the Bund for seven decades. It retains its splendor and beauty despite having seen both good and adverse times.

The hotel was originally named the Broadway Mansions. Construction of the mansion commenced in the summer of 1930 and finished in the spring of 1934. The hotel opened for a trial in October 1934 and officially opened its doors to the public in 1935.

The Broadway Mansions is 78.33 meters tall with 22 floors， covering an area of 5，243 square meters. The building， designed by Bright Fraser and built by six construction companies including Sin Jin Kee and Jiu Kee， was an early example of the modern Shanghai architecture.

When the Office for the Administration of the Shanghai Municipal Government was established in 1956， the Mansions became a hotel affiliated to it. From then on， the Mansions was mainly used to accommodate political figures. The balcony on the 18^th floor remained the best place to view the scenery of both sides of the Huangpu River for many years. Many domestic and foreign celebrities enjoyed staying there for this spectacular view. It was at this time that the Mansions established itself as a landmark of Shanghai.

As one of the most famous old hotels in Shanghai， the Mansions has been renovated for many times. The quality of the facilities were also improved and the Mansions acquired a refreshing new look. In contrast， the rich historical and cultural flavor of the hotel was successfully retained， making the renovation a famous and classic example. The Huaiyang Cuisine is one of the four famous cuisine traditions in China， which combines the Huai'an， Yangzhou and Zhenjiang Cuisines. In December 1959， Liu Shaoqi， Li Xiannian， Deng Xiaoping and other Party and state leaders hosted an important press conference in the Broadway Mansions. Deng Xiaoping sampled the Huaiyang dishes of the hotel and remarked that the dishes had achieved the state level. Former Premiere Zhou Enlai had dined many times in the hotel and particularly enjoyed Quick-fried Eel Tail， Steamed Crab Meat and Minced Pork Balls， Turnip Strips Pie and other Huaiyang dishes. Today， the hotel has six Chinese and Western restaurants with seating for six hundred.

Besides Huaiyang Cuisine， the hotel also offers authentic French cuisine. There are four bars， two conference rooms and one multi-functional hall.
